Police arrested a man in Georgetown Saturday as he drove his car on N St. NW. Although the man did not appear to be impaired, he was driving with an open bottle of Corona beer. Witnesses said the man argued with police. It didn't last long. "You're under arrest," came the quick reply.

A fairly recent salvo in the crusade against drunk driving, open container laws prohibit the possession of any open alcoholic beverage container in the passenger area of a motor vehicle. Federal "Strong Arm" tactics have forced all states to pass some form of statute. Section 154 of 23 U.S.C. required that states have an open container law in place by October 1, 2000.

Some Corona devotees pointed out another violation, in their view. There was no lime in the bottle.

great! let's start enforcing the law and stop drunks walking around with (red) paper cups filled with alcohol, vomiting and urinating on our front yards, shouting, breaking things, and all the rest that comes with a fine education...
